Professor, Oral Pathology University of Helsinki, Finland

Dr. Salo holds professorship at the University of Helsinki in Oulu, Finland, and is a Senior Physician in Oral Pathology at Helsinki University Hospital. Salo received her DDS degree from the Institute of Dentistry, at the University of Oulu in 1983, and a PhD degree from the same university in 1985. She was a post-doc researcher at the Department of Molecular Biology, UCLA, Los Angeles from 1985-1987, and a visiting scientist in Oral Biology, UAB,  Birmingham in 1990 and in 1995-1996 in Clinical Dental Sciences ant UBC, Vancouver. She started her own research group in 1990, and received a docent degree in Dental Biochemistry in 1992. She became a specialist in oral pathology at the Oulu University in 1997. The next year she received an acting associate professorship and in 1999 an acting professor of Oral Pathology at the Department of Diagnostics and Oral Medicine at the Institute of Dentistry at the University of Oulu. From 2002-2004 she was a senior lecturer of Oral Medicine at the Dental School at Helsinki University. She was invited to full professor of Oral Pathology to Oulu in 2004 and 2015 to Helsinki University Dental School. She has been an invited visiting full professor in Piracicaba Dental School, Campinas, Sao Paolo between 2013-2018. Salo was a Vice Dean of Scientific Affairs at the Medical Facility at the University of Oulu between 2006-2009. She is an elected fellow of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters since 2010.
