Event Details
Dewhurst is Vice Dean for Research at the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and Chair of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Rochester (UR). He is a molecular virologist, working on both HIV and influenza viruses. He directs the UR’s NIH-funded Centerfor AIDS Research, co-directs its BEST program, which broadens experiences in scientific training for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows engaged in biomedical research. He also directs the Rochester Postdoctoral Partnership program, which supports the academic career development of deaf and hard-of-hearing postdocs in the behavioral and biomedical sciences, and oversees the UR’s Stem Cell cGMP Facility, which produces cell-based products for first-in-human clinical trials. Finally, he launched the Artist-in-Residence program at the UR Medical Center, which uses art to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and HIV (artreducingstigma.com).
